How to Set Up Your Blog Templates in HubSpot Using the Generator Theme

Overview

HubSpot blogs use two separate templates: a blog listing template (the main blog page) and a blog post template (the individual article layout). Generator includes multiple pre-built options for both. This guide walks you through selecting and assigning the correct templates inside your HubSpot settings.

Access Your Blog Settings

Step 1: Open HubSpot Settings

Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of your HubSpot dashboard.
This takes you into your general settings area.

Step 2: Navigate to Blog Settings

In the left sidebar, scroll down and select Content → Blog.
This opens your blog configuration panel.

Select the Blog You Want to Edit

Choosing the Correct Blog

If you host multiple blogs in your HubSpot portal, use the blog dropdown at the top to choose the one you want to modify.

For example:
If you’re updating your documentation blog, select something like Generator HQ Docs, or whichever blog matches the content you’re working with.

Assign Your Blog Listing Template

What the Listing Template Controls

The blog listing template defines the layout for your main blog page — the page that shows all your posts with previews.

How to Change It

  1. In the Templates tab, find the Blog Listing Template section.

  2. Click Actions → Change template.

  3. Browse to HubSpot Themes → Generator.

  4. Choose one of Generator’s listing templates and save.

This immediately updates the layout of your main blog page.

Assign Your Blog Post Template

What the Blog Post Template Controls

Your blog post template defines the layout for each individual article. Generator includes several options, including the Scroll Spy Table of Contents version used for long-form content.

How to Change It

  1. In the Templates tab, locate the Blog Post Template section.

  2. Click Actions → Change template.

  3. Enter the Generator theme’s template selector.

  4. Choose the blog post template you want (e.g., standard, minimal, or the Scroll Spy Table of Contents layout).

Once selected, this template will apply to all posts in that specific blog.

Summary

Setting up your blog templates in HubSpot is simple: choose your blog, assign a listing template, assign a post template, and HubSpot will apply your selections across the entire blog instantly. Generator provides multiple professionally designed layouts, so you can easily switch between styles based on your content strategy.
