The Generator theme's global spacing settings control two key layout values across your entire site: the maximum content width and the vertical padding for sections. Setting these once in the global theme ensures every section you build will be consistent by default.
From any page in your HubSpot editor, click Edit, then navigate to Theme. This opens your global theme settings. Click Spacing in the settings panel.
The Maximum Content Width controls how wide your content area can expand horizontally on desktop screens.
By default, this may be set to a preset like Compact. Click Custom and enter 1200px as your value. This is considered a best practice for most sites — wide enough to feel spacious without becoming difficult to read. If your design calls for a broader feel, you can go up to 1400px, but keep in mind that wider settings will make the site feel larger overall.
Vertical Spacing sets the top and bottom padding for every section on desktop. The default is 80px.
Click Custom and set the value to 120px. This gives sections more breathing room and creates a more polished, open layout. You'll see the change reflected immediately — the distance between section content and the top or bottom edge of each section will visibly increase.
Note that individual sections can still override these values when you need tighter or looser spacing in specific areas.
Generator also lets you configure vertical spacing for mobile independently. A value of 48px works well for most sites and is a solid starting point. Adjust as needed based on your design.
Because these values are set globally, every new section you add to the site will automatically inherit them. This keeps your layout consistent without having to configure spacing manually on each module or section.
